You asked, and we delivered. We carry cork flooring once more!
We have been without cork flooring for a couple of years after our partnership with our last cork supplier ended. We have searched tirelessly to find a supplier with a product that we stand behind.

Lo and behold, Amorim Cork Flooring found us! Amorim Cork is the largest supplier of cork products worldwide. They have been planting, harvesting, and manufacturing cork since the late 1800’s, with their flooring sector launching in the 1970’s. Amorim takes pride in their eco friendly practices, their quality, and their comfort.
Cork forests, harvest, and production
Cork flooring is made from the bark of the cork oak tree. The trees must be at least 25 years old before their cork can be harvested, and even then, the first harvest is usually not fit for sale, and is therefore recycled. A mature tree has it’s bark harvested every 8-14 years. Harvesting cork does not harm the tree in any way, because the bark is removed by hand very delicately. This is a skill that is difficult to learn and usually is passed down between generations. Amorim doesn’t waste an ounce of their product. the first cut of cork is for whole cork wine bottle stoppers, and any scraps go into cork flooring. Even the dust from the cork is burned in order to power their production facilities. Many of Amorim’s processing and storage facilities are located very close to the forests that they harvest from, so the vehicles are not burning as much fuel when traveling in this beginning stage.

High quality products, that we can stand behind
Cork is an extremely high quality product. Cork is naturally warm, quiet, comfortable, and waterproof. It is hypo-allergenic as well, because it does not absorb dust and is mold, mildew, and termite resistant. Cork is also fire resistant, how cool! Cork makes fantastic flooring. It is all of these things, and it is stylish. It comes in your natural cork pattern (which keeps that pattern all of the way through, so it wears really well) and wood look planks. It comes in two different finishes: Acrylic, which is tougher, and water based, a natural finish that resists yellowing. This flooring comes in a large number of sizes and colours, from 12″X24″ – 8″X72″, and from dark to light and everything in between. When installed properly, cork can last a lifetime, and be removed and reinstalled carefully.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind if you are installing cork in your home. Because cork is a soft and comfortable product, it can become dented over time, so it is important to put felt pads under all furniture, and to shift your furniture every so often so that you do not create permanent indentations. This also means that it can be gouged by long sharp pet nails, though most cork has a very durable finish on it, especially if you install one with an acrylic top coat. It is also very important to use window treatments. Because cork is a natural product, it is subject to fading over time in direct sunlight. Cork is also not a cheap product. You get amazing quality, but you certainly pay for it. Though paying more upfront means that you typically won’t pay as much in maintenance.

Amorim Cork Flooring is one of the best flooring products that we carry, and while there are some minor restrictions with any cork product, we still recommend it to you because we believe in Amorim cork.
